SMATV System Installation at S4C, Yr Egin, Carmarthen

Project Overview

Canolfan S4C Yr Egin is a flagship creative and digital centre located on the campus of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David in Carmarthen. Designed to bring together creative industries under one roof, it features high-specification office space, post-production studios, a 120-seat auditorium, and vibrant community areas.

As part of the development, One Vision Digital Ltd was appointed by Amberwell Engineering Services to deliver a state-of-the-art Satellite Master Antenna Television (SMATV) system, supporting the building’s multifaceted media and broadcasting requirements.

Objectives

  • Provide a reliable and scalable SMATV infrastructure to distribute terrestrial and satellite television signals across the facility
  • Ensure high-quality signal reception at multiple distribution points throughout the building, supporting broadcast, production, and public use
  • Integrate seamlessly with the building’s modern architecture without compromising its aesthetic or functional design

Technical Implementation

The installation centred on a 5-wire SMATV system incorporating Triax multiswitch technology. This configuration enabled the simultaneous distribution of both Freeview (terrestrial) and Astra satellite signals to a range of outlets throughout the premises, ensuring dependable, high-quality reception throughout.

Outcome

The completed SMATV installation has significantly enhanced Yr Egin’s media capabilities, supporting S4C’s broadcasting operations and enabling tenants, creatives, and community users to benefit from high-standard audiovisual infrastructure. The system is robust, future-proof, and fully aligned with the centre’s mission to be a hub for innovation and collaboration in the Welsh media sector.
